This image demonstrates the difficulty and hardship of grinding out a living, dairing on the Peninsula hills.

In the early days on Banks Peninsula when houses became redundant they were often used as other farm buildings. In the Vogans case  this one became and still is a hay shed.

The meat house

Many old bottles can be found in and around the old houses.

How many generations have cows have passed by the old hose morning and night on their way to be milked?

This old house has been kept in reasonable repair and used as a woolshed in it's second life.The old sheep race has escaped the logger's skidder.

They have recently removed the huge old macrocarpa trees which were planted too close to all the old houses. They grew far faster and higher than in their homeland.

The out buildings are still used for storage keeping things dry from the driving southerlies or the cold and damp eastly fogs.
