Can you imagine getting to work like this.

I talked to this man at 8.00 am in the morning and he had already made 4 trips to the crater floor at Kawah Ijen and back to the crater rim. What he did not tell me and I later found out was that trip is a lift of 1800 feet and each loads ares 75 kgs each. For that he receives 2% of the value of the sulphur which equates to about $20.00 per day.

These folk are just one of the many trucks packed with workers in the early morning twilight on their way to collect clove leaves.
